Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area Overnight Backpack near Adkins Creek
4/14/16
Thursday was not a perfect day. It was mostly cloudy and in the 60's. There was still a chance of rain on Friday. With time available I headed northwest to the Upper Buffalo anyway. The forest was entered from Newton County 1410 off of Cave Mountain Rd (CR 5) at 2:30 p.m. with a temp of 71°. The creek within Pruitt Hollow was followed to the Buffalo and then the river was traced to the confluence of Adkins Creek. Camp was set up just above the river around 6:30 with an hour till sunset. Sleep was of poor quality. The skies did clear for most of the night but by morning they were, once again, cloudy. The low temp was 46°. At 6:00 camp was struck and the climb back out was begun. By 9:10 my vehicle was before me with a humid 60°. Total loop distance was 8.5 miles. The drizzle held off until I neared Clarksville where a decent breakfast was had at the Waffle House there.
