Hunt! It was the opening day for modern gun deer hunting season in Arkansas. I was right out there with all the hunters in them deer woods. ...but not hunting. Well...kind of hunting...hunting for bluff action. The forest was entered at 4:30 with 35°, calm wind conditions and mostly clear skies. A ridge was hiked to the edge of the Hurricane Creek Valley where no bluffs were discovered. The morning was a fine one, so not all was lost. The hike back was uneventful as well with some minor bluffs with minimal views found along Greasy Creek. Numerous gun shots were heard in the distance but no hunters were evident except at the deer camp near where I left the road earlier. It was 56° and cloudy at 12:30 when the hike ended. Total hike mileage was 11.4.
