Richland Creek Wilderness Area
Still summer bluff hike above the Valley of Deadliness
9/15/18
I can tell you with great certainty that on this particular Saturday morning in September, I was well within this wilderness area. The forest was entered at 5:15 a.m. My recollection of the events that transpired from there on are blurry. It did become evident to me that, within minutes, deadly creatures were flanking my path with plans to take me down and have their way with me. I quickly dropped back and, with great stealth, pounced on the straggler and silenced him. The next in line had no awareness of this, and with swiftness of foot, my fist was the last it saw on this earth. This left one remaining predator...the leader. Well, he was no longer a leader since his followers were lining the forest floor. I leaned over grabbed a rock and in one seamless motion, directed the projectile at the cranial area this little bastard. He went down hard. I chuckled to myself and continued my journey. Let that be a lesson to all you would-be woodland bunnies with designs on my ass.
Arrival was made to my bluff and the sun rose as expected. After a time the base of the bluff line was followed. Then some luncheon foods were partaken of with great fervor. It was then, and only then, that I made my way back and left the woods from the same spot that they were entered. Miles of travel were close to four.
