Beech Hurricane Creek, Little Mulberry Creek
Hike on Beech Hurricane Creek and Little Mulberry Creek, Ozark National Forest
1/5/19
North of Hwy16 the rivers drain to the Buffalo River. South of the road the drainage ends up in the Mulberry River. These two creeks are on the south side, and are quite lovely. At 5:30 a.m. with 38° the forest was penetrated and within minutes the dark expanse of the valley was before me. After some time spent on the bluffs above the sun rose and forced me into the depths below. The morning was cloudless and windless. The low Winter sun barely shown over the edge of the ridge. All was quiet, save for the creek's flow moving down the valley.
Beech Hurricane Creek...a goofy name, yes, flows into Little Mulberry Creek and heads south. At the confluence I headed upstream along a bedrock stretch that was good to behold. At the top of this run my lunch was had on the cool flat rocks on the creek's edge. After this it was back up the ridge. By 1:00 with 64° my starting point was in view. This hike traversed 4.3 miles of fine terrain.
