Big Shoal Creek
Hike down upper Big Shoal Creek, Ozark National Forest
1/26/19
On the north side of Mt Magazine there lies a slope. Along this slope arises a stream that assists with proper drainage of the slope. It is along this stream that my day began just before the rising of the sun on the morning of January 26th. The skies were clear with 25° of air temperature. Not long after dawn my direction of travel was downstream. As I paralleled the creek, it soon became apparent that this waterway was a fine one. My knowledge of Big Shoal Creek goes back more than thirty years. Plans were to kayak here long ago but that never came to be. Bedrock was abundant. Flow was of a goodly character. The combination of these attributes resulted in pure loveliness. The watery trace was followed for some time as it wormed its way through the rocky terrain. At a time just before noon, a fine lunch was had while residing on a rock with a close view of the creek. After that, a nearby promontory was scaled. Here, the view down the broad valley was gazed upon, and there was much rejoicing. By 2:10 my vehicle was in view and my hike ended. The hike mileage was around 3.7 mileages.
