Upper Buffalo Wilderness AreaHike on Whitaker Creek in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area
3/2/19
The cloudy skies were no deterrent on this Saturday...for I needed to be out there. The wilderness calls. After breakfast at Denny's in Russellville was secured, I headed north up Hwy 21 to Hwy 16 to Cave Mountain Rd to woods. By 6:15 the bluff line was under my feet. The sun would not rise visibly on this particular morning...whatever. The 34° air temp felt great. The wind was up for a while but moderated by 8:00, it seemed. After time spent on the bluff, my interest sent me into the valley. Whitaker Creek was traced upstream with difficulty in some areas. Jim Bob Whitaker Double Falls was flowing with both barrels and was quite lovely. Lunch was had there. It was oh so satisfying. By 12:25 with 38° my vehicle welcomed me back. This hike was about 3.5 miles in length and was very refreshing.
