Dismal Creek
Spring morning hike above Dismal Creek, Ozark National Forest
4/20/19
Dismal is the creek of life...or is it? You make the call. I know of two valleys with dismal in their names. Neither is the least bit dismal. Both areas have provided me with great joy. This is Dismal Creek. The upper reaches hold the Glory Hole of glory. It has probably already collapsed in on itself by now due to the huge throngs that visit it daily. Like the famed Hawksbill Crag, it will perish from over use. On this fine Spring morning my hike took me well downstream from this carnival of wonder. At 5:00 a.m. with 45°, I entered the dark forest. Breakfast was had at Ihop in Russelville and was tasty as some stuff.
After a time a worthy bluff was located with a view of decent quality, but not great quality. Here, the morning was witnessed and savored. Soon I moved upstream where many items of beauty were observed in their natural settings. Waterfalls and bluffs and newborn leaves of varying shades of green surrounded my ass as my passage was executed. By 10:00 with great sunniness and 62°, my origin point was arrived at. This particular hike was 4.5 miles in length.
