Talimena Scenic Drive
A drive to the sky with Queen Wilhelmina style action
2/29/20
The touring wagon was prepared. The required items were loaded carefully. The drive beagan at 4:15 a.m. Saturday morning. We drove southwest for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Arrival was made at the Mt Ida Cafe just before 6:00, which is the time of opening for this fine gathering place. It is customary for the local and indigenous peoples of the area to visit this location and pay tribute...even homage to the legend that this very old establishment carries. We ate and drank the finest of foods and international coffees while participating in a round table discussion with numerous dignitaries that arrived just after we did. Our minds were filled with a feeling that only small town living can provide as we departed. We drove out of Mt Ida at a high rate of speed, breaking all speed limit laws while evading at least two police cruisers.
To Mena, then...and onward, to the sky! The snake-like trail carried us higher and higher until maximum elevation was achieved. We surveyed the vastness of the valleys below. Some valleys were noted to be on the left while others were noted to be on the right. On to Queen Wilhelmina State Park we did travel. There, some coffee and relaxation was had. We then dove more to the west and into Oklahoma. The terrain there was quite manly, but my wife liked it too...for she is quite manly as well. We then headed back to the east where at noon time, the diminutive town of  Plainview was surveyed in the distance. There we stopped for a burger that was not well cooked and barely warm. We shall not return, for this was unacceptable. From there it was home in the central area of Arkansas.
