Ouachita National Forest
Drive up Hwy 7 and into the Ouachita National Forest with gravel road action
3/28/20
The morning was meant to be rainy. Wetness was delayed and I was able to enjoy a comfortable morning composed of clouds and wind. By the light of darkness my drive north on Hwy 7 began from Hwy 5 near Hot Springs. The first stop was at Iron Springs. The Middle Fork of the Saline River flows through it. I always visit this CCC era location when passing through here. There were a couple of parked vehicles there that possibly contained sleeping bastards, so my time there was cut short. I made sure to leave them each a skunk in a sack for a nice wake up surprise. Onward north then. The Winona Scenic Drive road heads east to Hwy 5. I headed west instead. My goal was to drive the 27 or so miles to Hwy 27. The lack of signs, roads that played out and others with downed trees blocking passage, urged me back to Hwy 7. This corridor is beautiful and many places to stop exist along the way. At lake Nimrod I headed east and ultimately back home. Rain did arrive as my compass pointed in an easterly direction.
