Possum Trot HollowHike of extreme possum action in the Ozark National Forest
5/9/20
Many hollows and creeks have mundane names. Rock Creek, Brushy Creek, Mill Creek, Nipple Creek, Goober Hollow and Bear Hollow are just a few. This hollow, at least, has kind of an interesting name. Possum Trot Hollow, along with the creek within it, empties into Walnut Creek which then joins with Big Piney Creek. This all takes place within the Ozark National Forest. I entered this hollow on a Saturday morning in May. The darkness was lessened by a fullish moon. The temp was 42°. It was 4:45 with clear skies and minimal wind action. A bluffline was found and mounted. The moon was replaced by the sun. The morning contained great beauty. I relished and savoured it. A waterfall called Squibjiggler was located and luncheon was had near its precipice. Butterflies and birds and assorted insects sauntered about as I reclined beneath a pine tree. All was good. By 12:35 with 64° my car was afore me. 3.2miles were covered.
