Southwest Arkansas
Motorcycle tour to Talimena Scenic Drive, Cossatot River and Shady Lake, Ouachita National Forest
7/18/20
At 3:15 a.m Saturday morning, I mounted my ride and headed towards southwest Arkansas. By 5:30 the bustling city of Mena was before me. The lights there were so bright to due the all night action that this town is known for. Nothing was open for breakfast so I moved up the mountain and attempted to see the sunrise. Clouds obscured most of that and the higher I went, the deeper into the clouds I did go. At that point, I retraced my tracks and found a vista with a view. Then, it was back into Mena for breakfast at the Skyline Cafe. The food was very nice and the locals made no attempt to kill me, as might happen in a larger city these days. Upon leaving the restaurant, a Harley style motorcycle was parked fairly close to my superior Japanese unit. Fearing for the health of my bike, I was forced to kick over this high decibel road hogging piece of crap and spin gravel onto it as I left at a high rate of speed. This had to be done to ensure the safety of me and mine.
I ran back up the the slope, but the clouds were still too low for a meaningful ride. it was then southward and to the east. Stops were made at the Cossatot River State Park picnic area and Shady Lake Recreation Area. All of these locations reside within the Ouachita National Forest...which is brought to you by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Forest Service. From Shady Lake I rode home making excellent time. No laws were broken...as I obey all rules.
