Leatherwood Wilderness Area
Hike on the western edge of the Leatherwood Wilderness Area
8/23/21
We, as humans, desire a basic connection to nature from time to time...well, some of us do, anyway. I, myself, need to be outside on a regular basis to feel the nature...to wrestle with the wildland creatures...to touch the trees and plants hidden within the deep shrubbery. My main goal is to build a bushcraft style fire in order to drink one cup of coffee. What is a hike without the bushcraft style coffee. I can only imagine, for I serve up a cup on every hike. It is well worth an hour of my time to do this. It is best to drink this coffee out of a wooden spoon shaped cup. The cup must have been hand hewn from an oak encountered on a journey. The oak must have consented, otherwise the vessel will be impure. Of course, this is all total bull style feculence. I drink my coffee at Waffle House, which is where my breakfast was obtained on this very day. The cup was made of some kind of ceramic, I think. Breakfast was good there, and also served on a platter of similar construction. I feel confident that if you ask, you can get your meal served on and in wooden basins. Feel free to request this on your next visit there.
My entry into the forest was at 5:30 a.m. and the temp was 78°. The moon was quite full, and the skies were essentially cloudless. Humidituh was quite high, as was the spidra web concentration. No ticks were encountered, for some odd reason. The woods were dense and entangling at some locations. At many times my progress was forced to the left and then the right. Within a matter of time, a bluff top location was found and occupied for morning sunrise action. As is my usual...a period of time was spent there. Then it was on to explore more woodland terrain. By 10:00 with 81°, my morning walk ended. The measurement of this came in at 3.5 miles.
