Chickalah Creek Gorge
Hike down Chickalah Creek on the eastern edge of Huckleberry Mountain
4/1/22
If you asked me about danger...I'd reply "Chickalah Creek Gorge". You'd say something like "you're a liar" and then you would run away like a little girl. I've seen you run...and...yeah. Breakfast be had at Waffle House in Russellville. It was cooked to perfection and served with a smile by Suzie the server. The total was $10.00 with a $3.00 tip. That's $13.00. I then drove to the old Jimbobhe village of Chickalah and then headed west into the forest. Icey snow remained on the shady slopes there. This made traversal of the area difficult. The peril rate was near 90%. That's equivalent to Class V peril in Europe. The shrubbery was entered at 5:00 with 34° and skies of low moisture content. This creek has many sloped waterfalls and is quite lovely. Craggy bluffs line the valley on both sides. Birds also line the valley on both sides. The path this stream takes is quite curvy. After many near death occurrences due to tightness, the walls spread apart and the going was easier. I had some lunch at creekside with the sun caressing my weary loins, as is my usual practice. Upon exit from the valley at 11:05, the temp had risen to 60°. My loop hike covered 4 miles.
