Mulberry River
Hike to the Mulberry River in the Salt Spring Bend area
3/9/22
For some reason, I have not spent much time around the Mulberry. On this occasion, time was spent there. Breakfast was at 3:00 a.m. at the Clarksville Waffle House. At 5:10 the woods were entered and immediately I was greeted buy a great pile of downed trees and brush that went on for long time. With great difficulty my progress progressed and at some point the woods became actual woods. The temp was 30° and the skies were clear with no semblance of lunar activity. A narrow ridge was followed to the south and fog was encountered as I descended into the valley. A bluff line prevented my advance and I was forced to backtrack. A way down was discovered and soon the Mulberry was before me. It was at a goodly level. The river was followed downstream for a bit until necessity nudged me back up the slope. A hollow was traced through a jumble of boulders. Pubsnatch Falls appeared before me and barred my ascent. A way around was found. Lunch was had on the forest floor with leaves all about me. This brief respited proved to be very refreshing. By 11:55 with 55° my vehicular unit was before me. The total distance was 4.9 miles.
