Mikes Creek, Ozark National Forest
Hike to Mikes Creek and up a side creek with extreme waterfall action
3/31/22
Arkansas is a natural...well sure. I have caressed many of its textures and my eyes have viewed its many and varied landscapes. Breakfast was at Waffle House in Clarksville. At 4:50 a.m. I entered the shrubbery to partake of more of theses attributes. It rained with gusto just yesterday. All the little feeder creeks were feeding the larger feeder creeks and so on. The temp was 35° and the area above me was now free of clouds. The forest was dense and difficult for a while, but eventually thinned out enough to make it more of a pleasure to walk through. I hit a boulder field that was perched at the edge of the mountain just before it fell into the valley. Here, I mounted a large rock and waited for sunrise.
The sun arrived and it was cherished. Moderate clumps of fog drifted down the chasm. The birds were aware of the time and responded appropriately. I witnessed another beautiful morning and it was embedded into my memory and added to the others. It seemed crowded in there...a goodly crowding. I then headed down the hill to my target creek and followed it upstream. Never before had I beheld so many waterfalls in all my travels. The falling waters repeated on and on. After some distance, my forward motion became too impeded by assorted barriers that I was forced to take a break and have a sandwich on some bedrock. The skies that were earlier clear were now cloudy. Upon finishing, I moved up the tangled slope until an old road bed was found and traced back to my starting location. The forest was exited at 1:25 with 43° and snow flurries. This hike covered 3.6 miles.
