Buck Branch and Boss Hollow
Bluff on creek hike above Buck Branch and up the Boss Hollow
1/20/23
Buck Branch is a tributary of Hurricane Creek. Boss Hollow is a tributary of Buck Branch. Hurricane Creek is a tributary of Big Piney Creek. Big Piney Creek is a tributary of the Arkansas River. This is the watershed utilized for this hike. Start was at 5:05 with 34° and partly cloudy and quite dark skies due to the lack of a moon. The top of this ridge has a farm that needed to be bypassed to reach my destination. This proved to be a difficult endeavor secondary to a thick forest and ravines of joy. Once the area of concern was behind me, it was down the mountain until a bluff line was was located. This line was traced back to the east until a bluff of fine quality was found and mounted. We'll call this bluff Bob.
Bob provided an excellent view down the valley of Buck Branch. Here, the uprising sun was observed. The conditions were as if my request had been confirmed and delivered. When this location had been thoroughly milked for all it had to offer, it was left behind. Down the hill and around the ridge I did go. The creek at the bottom of Boss Hollow was hit and noted to be goodly. This mostly bedrock lined creek was followed upstream for a time. Lunch was had against a large and juicy bolder beside the creek where warm sunbeams pounded against my body habitus. Afterwards, the terrifying slope was climbed until it could be climbed no more. Exit was made out at 12:30 with 50°. Mileage was 4.3 miles but it felt like more miles due to the deadly nature of the hike.
