Description
6/7/23
In 39 years of kayaking I have paddled the Mulberry River only once. That was in 1985. My close proximity to this stream now may change that. On this morning it was 63° and foggy. At 5:50 my kayak was eased into the water with me inside. We headed downstream. It would have been preferred to head upstream, but the terrain did not look as inviting as the chosen section. The river level was just below the recommended minimum for pleasant floating. The pools had enough water to keep the hull above the rock bottom. I moved through them with fair ease, but the riffles were quite shallow. A point was reached at a gravel bar with adequate amenities for viewing the morning. Fishing was tried but nothing was hooked. My desire for the elusive lunker style bass was met with disappointment. After a time, I began the struggle back upstream. The fog had now lifted to reveal a lovely sunny morning. At 10:00 with 70° my boat exited the fluid. The round trip was 1.3 miles.
