Bear Creek
Bear Creek hike of treachery and deceit with arbitrary bluff action
2/2/24
Go to Indian Creek within the Buffalo National River. Now step over the ridge to the east. You're now in the valley of Bear Creek. I entered this valley, or the bluff line above it, at 5:50 with 42° and partly cloudy skies. The hike to the rim was short but gnarly. A bluff top was located and occupied by sunrise. The gorge below was impressive. Many rocks were hurled into its depths. The sounds of many twerplets echoed from the walls around me. A very light breeze gently caressed my loins. In the distance a broad bluff line commanded the view. I obeyed orders and gazed upon it.
When my mind fully absorbed all this position had to offer, I moved up the rim. A steep and frictionless chute was found. It was followed to the bottom. Many a large boulders choked the stream making downstream navigation quite a chore. One might describe it as...perilous? Yes...that. No water was visible, but a slight flow did appear a ways down the creek. A leaning moss covered tree was used for my luncheon respite. The sangwich that I made the day before was pulled from my lunchbox and savagely ingested. Then, and only then, did I move up the slope to the road where my vehicular unit was waiting. It was noted to be 11:40 with 61° at this moment in time. Distance hiked was 3 miles.
