Buffalo River
Hike from Ponca to Steel Creek on the Buffalo River Trail then fishing back upstream
8/7/24
Many visits have been made to different portions of this fine stream by me over the years. The Buffalo River Trail traces much of it along the right side. At 4:35 with 65°, this trail was mounted at the Ponca trailhead. It was followed with illumination from by expensive headlamp, which boasts 27,000 lumens. This amount of brightness lasts for 1.5 seconds only, then reverts back to 12 lumens. The trails stays well above the river then drops back down into the valley at Steel Creek. There, the river was waded into and followed back upstream. Many lunker style bass were reeled in and placed within my wicker creel for later eating. By 9:30 with 74° and clear skies, my vehicular unit was in sight. This hike covered 3.8 miles.
