Chinquapin Branch of Horsehead Creek
Tarp on bluff action hike in the uppermost reaches of Horsehead Creek
9/10/24
Horsehead Creek does not like me. The drainage system there is vast and beautiful. Unfortunately, the forest service has burned away much of its character to supposedly prevent forest fires. Smokey, you bastard! I once entered an area that was still smoking in 2020. On today's hike, the forest was found to have been fairly recently burned. It was 5:00 a.m with 58°. I went in anyway and struggled my way to a bluff overlooking the valley that would soon empty into the Arkansas River Valley to the south. Exit was made at at 8:05  with 60°. Then I went home. The footfall trace covered 2.2 miles.
