Lovell Hollow
Hike to Lovell Hollow with Upper Buffalo Wilderness action
4/22/25
This hollow is short and a bit hidden, but is real nice. The forest was entered at 4:40 with 55° and skies of mostly clearness. Jib Bob Lovell settled this area in 1831 with his wife Susie and son Ernest T. They all died three years later when their heavily laden wagon plummeted over a bluff. Sad. My way was made to the edge of the Buffalo where a morning observation deck was established. Sunrise was observed then I moved on up the hollow. Many water features were viewed and noted to be of exceptional quality. Peril was experienced. At a point, the creek was exited and the base of a bluff line was followed. Then...I was out. This occurred at 10:20 with 70°.
