Little Mulberry Creek
Hike to Little Mulberry Creek and Clifty Hollow with evasive action
10/12/19
Just this past January I hike into an area just upstream of my destination for this week. The tributary of Little Mulberry Creek explored at that time was Beech Hurricane Creek. It was quite lovely, so the stretch of the Little Mulberry to the south seemed a likely choice since this valley is a beauty. Breakfast was had at Denny's in Russelville. Hwy 21 was taken north out of Clarksville to a mudhole of a road just off Hwy 16. At 5:00 a.m. with 34°, a clear sky and a full moon...I headed in. Sunrise was scheduled for around 7:15. By 6:50 with 3 miles behind me, my chosen bluff was mounted. It was a large one with an excellent view of the partially fogged valley of Little Mulberry Creek. The usual activities were partaken of and a morning of excellent quality was participated in. Around 8:30 I moved down the bluff line and dropped into the the valley called Clifty Hollow. There was ample water and this creek was a good one. Unfortunately, a high concentration of fallen trees littered the forest floor marring much of its beauty. This made upstream travel quite difficult. I ate lunch on a sunny rock beside the stream and relaxed for a time. The decision was made to move back up the slope since the creek was a mess of timber trash. By 1:10 with 58° my origin was in sight. The miles hiked on this day came to 8.4.
