Hudson Mountain, Dry Creek
Summer bluff hike on Hudson Mountain above Dry Creek with extreme bushcraft action, not
7/25/20
On this morning, it is to somewhere different. In the Ozark National Forest near Cowell lies an area that contains Ricketts Mountain, Owens Mountain, Hudson Shelter and Wolf Creek. Dry Creek flows into Big Creek which then passes below Sam's Throne. Breakfast was at Denny's in Russellville. I entered the woods at 5:00 a.m. with 74° and clear skies. The northward pointing ridge of the mountain was followed out to the tip of the point. The bluff there was crap so I continued my search and just before sunrise a miniscule bluff surface was located and prepared for rising sun action. It came and I then moved along the bluff line in search of sweetness. Many interesting spots were noted and much bushcraft was performed along the way...not. An early lunch was had next to a trickling waterfall, since breakfast was at 3:00. By 10:30 with 80° and mostly cloudy skies, the forest spat me out onto the road. The loop hike was around 3 miles.
