Falls Branch of Cave Creek
Falls Branch of Cave Creek hike of minimal bluff action
5/2/20
Cave Creek flows into the Buffalo River about six miles upstream from the confluence of Richland Creek with the Buffalo. My travels have included visits to parts of this watershed in the past...here, here, here, here and here. This creek is a major tributary of the Buffalo and has many scenic areas. I entered early at 4:00 a.m. and with many potential bluffs marked, was optimistic for great sunrise action. It was 64° and clear with winds around 8 mph. The forest was dense with many brambles and killer vegetation. Pollen was visible floating in the air before me. Headway was a slow proposition. My first bluff was of poor quality, as were numbers two, three and four. At four the sun was near rising so I stopped and partook of it there, even though the view was mostly trees blocking the valley. After time was spent there, I gave up my search, as my expectations were now low. By 8:00 with 68°, I arrived back at the car. The morning was glorious but the hike was fruitless. 4.6 miles were covered. These miles were of a hellish nature. I was proud to have survied.
